At a recent Emmys party, Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller ran into The Silence of the Lambs star Jodie Foster. The result was the enthusiastic Twitter pic you see below. This encounter – a mix of two people
hailing from two separate Hannibal screen adaptations – spurred rumors that Fuller was courting Foster for a directing gig on the upcoming third season of Hannibal.

I spoke to Fuller this afternoon and he provided some clarification and sobering truth. “We reached out to her in the first season, when we started to think about Hannibal,” he told me. “I think she’s a wonderful director and would love to have her involved, I don’t think it’s a thing that’s going to happen because she’s got a lot going on. And it’s a television show connected to her most iconic performance and revisiting that territory might be artistically complicated for her. It was great to meet the her and she’s absolutely stunning and she just glows. She has a wonderful light about her.”
Fuller and I carried on a bit longer about Hannibal‘s third season, but you’ll have to wait for those updates in the coming days.
Hannibal season 2, meanwhile, arrives on DVD and Blu-ray September 16th packed with special features.
